El Regreso a la Escuela


Hoy, nos despertamos a las siete para ir a la escuela otra vez. Desayunamos, y fuimos a la escuela con la energía del café de la mañana. Las maestras de la escuela nos dieron siete composiciones para escribir y un ensayo sobre temas diferentes. ¡Era mucha tarea! Tuvimos una clase de español con nuestro maestro que nos hace escribir historias. Después de clases, visitamos una universidad en San Miguel. Primero, hablamos con los estudiantes en una clase de inglés. Ellos no hablaban mucho inglés y por eso hablamos español la mayoría del tiempo. Alguien me preguntó si me gustaba la cerveza. Entonces preparamos guacamole y postres de manzana en la cocina de la universidad. ¡Fueron deliciosos! Salimos de la universidad en autobús para el Centro Bilingüe. Desde allí, jugamos al baloncesto en el parque y volvimos a Casa Carmen. Para el almuerzo, comimos mole negro y pollo. A las personas que lo probaron les gustó mucho. Más tarde, paseamos por San Miguel y nos explicó la importancia de los edificios un maestro del Centro Bilingüe que se llama Arturo. Aprendimos mucho de la historia de la ciudad, y presentaremos unos diálogos sobre esta historia el miércoles. Cenamos un poco temprano, y comimos pizza por la primera vez en las Musas. Hicimos unas entrevistas para una estación de televisión. Hablamos sobre los deportes, especialmente el fútbol. El entrenador del equipo de A.C. Milan habló por mucho tiempo sobre nuestro viaje a San Miguel y sobre su equipo de fútbol. ¡Fue muy divertido estar en un programa de televisión!

Back to School

Today, we woke up at seven o'clock for another day of school. We ate breakfast, and walked to the Centro Bilingüe with the jolt of the morning coffee still pumping in our veins. The teacher at the school gave us seven entries to write and a research paper on various topics about San Miguel. That's a lot of homework! We took a Spanish class with our teacher and wrote small entries on different topics using different verb tenses. After classes, we visited a university in San Miguel. We first talked with some of the students there during an English class. However, the students spoke very little English so we ended up talking in Spanish for the majority of the time. Then we prepared guacamole and apple desserts in the university kitchen. They were delicious! We left the university by bus to the Centro Bilingüe. From there, we played basketball in the park and returned to Casa Carmen. For lunch, we ate mole and chicken. The people who tried the mole liked it a lot. Later, we took a walk through San Miguel and a teacher named Arturo explained to us the importance of the buildings of San Miguel. We learned a lot of the history of the city, and we will present skits concerning this history on Wednesday. We ate dinner a little bit early, and we ate pizza for the first time in Las Musas restaurant. Next we participated in an interview for a Mexican television station. We talked about sports (mostly soccer). The coach of A.C. Milan talked for a while about our trip to San Miguel and about his own team. It was really fun to be on T.V.!

Décimo día

Hoy fue un día muy cansado. Después de despertarnos y desayunarnos, fuimos en autobús al jardín botánico Charco del ingenio. Cuando llegamos al jardín botánico, con Carlo y Buddy, vimos muchos cactos diferentes. Paseamos por el jardín botánico y escalamos muchas rocas. Había muchos cañones grandísimos. Cuando salimos del jardín botánico, volvimos a Casa Carmen a pie. Después, fuimos a Las Musas para almorzar. Qué lástima que México haya perdido contra Argentina en la Copa Mundial. Entonces, fuimos al campo de fútbol para jugar con los jugadores de AC Milan, nuestros nuevos amigos. Después, regresamos a Las Musas para cenar. Cuando terminamos, volvimos a Casa Carmen para ducharnos antes de salir al Jardín.

Day Ten

Today was a very tiring day. After we woke up and ate breakfast, we got on a bus to the botanical garden Charco del ingenio. When we arrived at the botanical garden, with Carlo and Buddy, we saw many types of cacti. We walked through the botanical garden and we climbed many rocks. There were many large canyons. When we left the botanical garden, we came, by foot, back to Casa Carmen. After that, we went to Las Musas for lunch. It is a shame that Mexico lost against Argentina in the World Cup. Later, we went to the soccer field to play with the AC Milan team, our new friends. Then, we went back to Las Musas to eat dinner. When we finished eating, we came back to Casa Carmen to shower before going out to El Jardín.

Hoy nosotros fuimos a Guanajuato, México. Hicimos muchas cosas. Primero, nosotros visitamos el Museo de las Momias de Guanajuato. En este museo, había personas muertas que no estaban en el cementerio y estaban petrificadas por los minerales en la tierra. Había hombres, mujeres, niños, y bebés. Algunos de nosotros estabamos muy horrorizados y tuvimos que salir del museo temprano.

Luego, nosotros fuimos a la mina San Ramón en Guanajuato. El primer grupo que entró en la mina tenía miedo porque un hombre apagó las luces. Miguel, Juan, Anderson, Henry, y Sam salieron de la mina corriendo. Entonces, fuimos a la Alhóndiga de Granaditos. Allí, fusilaron a Ignacio Allende y al Padre Hidalgo entre otros. Las autoridades españolas pusieron sus cabezas en jaulas y las colgaron en cada ángulo de este edificio. Luego, fuimos a un mercado en Guanajuato. Antes de llegar a las aguas termales, almorzamos hamburguesas y CocaColas por el camino.

Después del almuerzo, fuimos al parque acuático Xoté con nuestro amigo nuevo, Angelo. Fue muy divertido. Había piscinas, jacuzzis, y toboganes de agua. Cuando regresamos, cenamos en las Musas, fuimos al Jardín, y entonces nos acostamos.

Buddy Bardenwerper llegó hoy.


Saturday, June 26

Today we went to Guanajuato, Mexico. We did many things, starting with the Guanajuato Mummy Museum. It consisted of people whose graves had been exhumed and were petrified due to the minerals in the soil. There were many different types of people, including men, women, children, and babies. Some of us were so horrified that we had to leave early.

Next, we went to the San Ramón mine in Guanajuato. The first group that went into the mine was scared because a tour guide turned the mine’s lights off. Michael, John, Anderson, Henry, and Sam left the mine running. After that, we went to a building called Alhóndiga de Granaditos, where Ignacio Allende and Father Hidalgo, among others, were shot. The Spanish authorities put their heads in cages and hung them on the corners of the building. After that, we went to a market in Guanajuato. Before arriving at the hot springs, we had hamburgers and Coke for lunch on way.

After lunch, went to the water park Xoté with our new friend Angelo. It was very fun. There were pools, hot tubs, and water slides. When we returned, we ate dinner in Las Musas, went to the garden for some time, and then went to bed.

Buddy Bardenwerper arrived today.

Nosotros fuimos a la escuela para el último día de clases de esta semana. En la escuela, después de aprender mucho español, fuimos al Jardín Botánico. Vimos otro lado de México, el campo, con todos los cactus, rocas, y un lugar de hermosas montañas en el fondo. De camino a casa nos detuvimos para almorzar, y luego nos dirigimos de nuevo a la escuela para una pequeña fiesta. En la fiesta había piñatas, helados de fresa y vainilla, y el trabajo de los maestros de la escuela y los niños. Después de relajarnos y cenar, tomamos un tur de la historia de San Miguel. El tur duró casi una hora personajes que explicaron las leyendas de San Miguel. Una vez que el tur terminó, tuvimos un poco de tiempo para conocer a las locales. Después de un día agotador, nosotros nos dirigimos de nuevo a la Casa Carmen para lo que debe ser un día divirtido mañana.

Friday, June 25

We all went to school looking forward to our last day of school for the week. In school, after we learned a lot of Spanish, we went to the Botanical Garden. There we experienced a different side of Mexico, the country side; with all of the cactuses, rocks, and the site of beautiful mountains in the background. On our way home, we stopped for lunch, and then headed back to the school for a small party. The party had piñatas, strawberry and vanilla ice creams, and performances from the school teachers and kids. After relaxing and having dinner, we took a history tour of San Miguel. The tour was nearly an hour long, with the characters explaining the legends of San Miguel. Once the tour ended, we had a little free time to socialize with the locals. After an exhausting day, we headed back to Casa Carmen looking forward to what should be a fun day tomorrow.

Hoy, tuvimos que despertarnos más temprano que otros días. Casi todos se durmieron a la mesa durante el desayuno porque estaban cansados. Llegamos al Centro Bilingüe a las ocho, treinta minutos más temprano que llegamos usualmente. Jugamos a las cartas y comimos chocolate y churros. A las ocho y media, unos jóvenes que toman la clase de inglés en el Centro Bilingüe llegaron y jugaron a lotería con nosotros. Después de todas nuestras clases, fuimos a Mamma Mía para cocinar pizzas y tacos en otro restaurante. Fueron deliciosos. Fuimos al parque para ver el festival de danza folklórica y regresamos a Casa Carmen para descansar antes de jugar al fútbol. En la noche, jugamos contra el equipo de A.C. Milan. Hicimos mucho ejercicio y practicamos nuestro español con los chicos del otro equipo. Dijimos ‘bien hecho’ y ‘¡pásala!’. Fue un día divertido y al mismo tiempo cansado.

Today, we had to wake up earlier than the other days. Almost everyone feel asleep at the table at breakfast because everyone was tired. We arrived at the Centro Bilingüe at 8, thirty minutes earlier than usual. We played cards and ate chocolate and churros. At 8:30, some locals arrived, and we talked and played cards with them. After our classes, we went to Mamma Mia to cook pizza and tacos. It was delicious. Later, we went to the park to see the folkloric dance festival and then returned to Casa Carmen to rest up before the big game. At night, we played soccer vs. A.C Milan. We exercised a lot and practiced our Spanish with the boys on the other team. We said thinks like, “ Well done” and “Pass it” . It was a fun and tiring day.
